She Built This City
An all-star panel featuring the women who helped design and build Portland.
She Built This City is an homage from a grandson to his grandmother. Nathanael Chown, a fifth-generation family member of Chown Hardware, will host an all-star panel during Design Week Portland on how women like his grandmother, Eleanor, helped design and build Portland.
Mixing creativity, entrepreneurship, business acumen, and a pioneering spirit, this panel is ideal for people interested in learning more about the women who broke into male-dominated industries, shaping the city as we know it. A panel of architects and interior designers will share personal stories and leave you with new insights into what it means to be a woman designer, from generation to generation.
Moderating the panel is DJ Wilson, the former President and General Manager of KGW. DJ has received a number of accolades for her work with KGW, culminating in her induction into the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Silver Circle in 2018. She has also served as a Trustee for the Portland Art Museum and as Chair of the Board for the Portland Business Alliance.
You won't want to miss this April 11th event, with panelists including:
- Joelle Nesen from Maison, Inc.
- Melody Emerick from Emerick Architects
- Anna Kimmel from Finley Grace Design
- Kathie Maughan Francis from Maughan Design and Remodel
- Arielle Weedman from Weedman Design Partners
- Ruth Chancellor from Chancellor Designs
There is a mixer after the panel, where food and drinks will be served. All of the panelists will be there, so stick around and share your thoughts and questions with them.
