Portland Fashion Institute: Open House
The Portland Fashion Institute (PFI) offers classes for anyone interested in fashion, from foundations in sewing and pattern making, to advanced classes in design and couture, and during Design Week Portland, they are opening their doors for an Open House.
PFI recently purchased the building next to its flagship location in the Hollywood District, which added another 3,000 square feet to accommodate their growing number of classes and students. In the new space, PFI has been working with an advisory board from Adidas, Columbia Sportswear, Nike, and Shibui Knits to bring in 3D and innovative design labs, plus a retail space for boutiques and a design museum. During the Open House, visitors will get to explore this exciting new building.
Visitors will also be able to participate in demos. Anne Swanson is doing a demo on pattern making, Suzi Gurney from Mercantile is doing a demo on sewing the perfect zipper, Lisa Silveira from Wandering Muse is doing a demo on machine knitting, and Tricia Langman, founder of Spoogi, is doing a demo on fabric painting.
During the Open House, 60 years of Barbie will be on display, with 100 designer fashions. There will also be a talk by Michelle Lesniak, from Project Runway All Stars, on how to make it as a fashion designer.
