We use Stripe to process customer payments, and their Connect platform to disburse money to our organizers. If you or your organization cannot use Stripe, we are able to pay out your platform balance via PayPal or check. If you are only hosting an Open House (or your Festival Event does not include paid Ticket Types) you do not need a Stripe account.
Connecting a Stripe Account
From your Design Portland account dashboard, click “Stripe + Payouts” in the sidebar. If you haven’t connected a Stripe account, you’ll see a prompt to do so.
Stripe asks for a bit of information to set up an account and confirm your identity, and forwards you back to the Design Portland platform. If you already have a Stripe account, you’re welcome to use it—just click “Sign In” in the upper-right corner of the Stripe sign-up form.
The sign-up process is mostly self-explanatory, but there are a few things to know, going in:
- Select the most appropriate Type of Business option, as it will affect the rest of the application.
- The Statement Descriptor field is not shown to Design Portland guests. This is only used if you process transactions directly, which Design Portland currently does not support.
- The Email does not have to be the same one you are using on Design Portland.
None of the information you provide to Stripe is displayed to guests, and you should never share your Stripe account information or credentials with guests. By connecting a Stripe account to Design Portland, you are already providing us a means to transfer your funds, which means staff will never ask you for additional details.
After creating and/or connecting an account, you will be redirected back to your Design Portland dashboard and should see an Account ID displayed in a green box. If you don’t see this, try the process again, or contact us. Even if the connection fails, your Stripe account ought to have still been set up, so it should just be a matter of logging in.
Only one Stripe account can be connected at a time, which means your ticket sales are aggregated and paid out to the same connected account. Please contact us if you need to keep income from your listings separate.
Disconnecting a Stripe Account
If you no longer wish to receive payments via Stripe, you can disconnect your account at any time. Just click the “Disconnect” button.
