Festival registration is open! Design Week 2020 runs virtually from August 3-7.
Being a graphic designer can involve creating fun illustrations, beautiful layouts, and playful color pallets. However, the journey to get to where you want to be isn’t always so easy. Success stories are overdone, let’s be real, the graphic design industry can be hard, confusing, and sometimes lonely. The Other Side of Design focuses on empowering designers by having a group of panelist share how they’ve failed so that others can learn from what they've did wrong.
Join us for a night full of failure, where a group of panelist will share how they’ve failed, what they wish they knew, and of course to answer any questions you may have. The panelist selected to talk will bring a different diversity perspective as well as a different level of experience. The panelists will include Ovidio Francisco-Juan, a Guatemalan designer who recently finished the Portland State University Graphic Design program. Eric Ahlstrom a Puerto Rican freelance designer who focuses in animation and graphic design. As well as co founder Liz Neilson of the Beauty Shop, a local brand agency full of talented women. The event will be moderated by local artist Roz Crews. They’ll open up to the challenges they faced, the struggles they had and the directions they have taken.
Ticket holders will receive their digital pass link starting Monday, August 3rd. We'll send a second reminder on Wednesday, August 5th and a final reminder an hour before the event on August 6th.
Donations will help purchase materials for projects that will be informing the latinx business community about the importance of Branding, Website, and Social Media. This is an on going project that was started by Ovidio Francisco-Juan where he has shared his knowledge to the SBDC Latinx community and plan to soon work with other Portland/Vancouver entrepreneurs.
