Crossing Cultural Boundaries: Design for the International Client

A moderated panel session, drawing on participants' experiences planning and designing in foreign countries. Panelists will share lessons learned regarding successful approaches and strategies and avoidance of potential pitfalls. Discussion topics will include obtaining overseas work, collaborating with overseas professionals, cultural challenges, researching local materials and construction capabilities, and the personal and professional rewards of working internationally.

Panelists will include Nels Hall, Yost Grube Hall Architecture, Architect and Planner; Marilee Hanks, Knot, Landscape Architect; Lucas Gray, Propel Studio, Designer; and Charles Kelley, ZGF Architects, Urban Designer. The panel will be moderated by John Blumthal, a founding board member of Architects Without Borders - Oregon.
