This walk focuses on the demolished 19th century neighborhood of South Portland and its replacement by the Portland Center, the city's first foray into large scale urban redevelopment accompanied by Lawrence Halperin's Portland Sequence of interconnected fountains and open spaces. John Doyle

Mr Doyle has been an annual participant in the Design Week festival since 2017. He has been creating and leading walking tours on Portland architecture as a volunteer for the Architectural Heritage Center since 2008 and is a member of its education committee. He holds a BA in art history and history from Stony Brook University and an MA in art history from Tufts University. He worked as an Education Department lecturer for the Metropolitan Museum of Art from 1990-96.
